Romantic in-home + Butterfly Beach couples session
I’ve been waiting oh so
patiently anxiously to share this Santa Barbara lifestyle session with you guys. This whole adventure began with a dream, one that came true. And an adventure it has been, to say the least.
I arrived at their 91 year old Craftsman Cottage, or more lovingly known as the confused cottage on a gorgeously sunny morning. I’ve known Kelsey for 5 years – hold the phone while I reminisce. We met in 2012, me a determined college grad and her a successful office manager at one of the coolest ad agencies in Los Angeles. I began work fairly quickly after graduation, joining the Office Management team, where Kelsey was my supervisor.
Over the next year and a half, we became super close. And when I announced that I was moving to Hawaii and leaving corporate America behind, it was a sad, sad day. I would miss my team but we vowed to keep in touch. And here’s the cool thing… I’m not exaggerating when I say: not a day goes by that Kelsey and I don’t text. Every. Single. Day. for the last 3 years, we have texted daily. Some days more than others, but when one of us hasn’t heard from the other in awhile (read: a few hours) we check in. Our work relationship morphed into a sisterhood, that knew no time changes.
Anywho… ever since I could remember it’s been Kelsey and Corey’s dream to leave Los Angeles behind and move their lives to Santa Barbara. And a little over a year ago, they made their dream come true. They bought this 91 year old home, full of character. I’m sure as Kelsey reads this… she’ll laugh. This one’s for you, gurlll. But alas, character and all, I guarantee that one day they’ll look back, laugh about all the stuff they went through and feel so proud about this home they cultivated.
On the day of their session, I arrived early to hang out with Kelsey a bit before we started shooting. As I wandered around their home, figuring out where we would take photos, etc. I came across the light pouring in through their kitchen window, illuminating the hydrangeas and the countertop in such a beautiful way. I knew that the natural light in their house would be a dream. We started their session in their living room with Coop, their four-legged baby. Sidenote: I took Coop’s newborn photos (I know, you probably think I’m crazy… but really)! Then we headed over to the foyer where they danced. When you’re looking at those photos, take note of the ORIGINAL windows. I hope they never have to get rid of those. Finally, we headed into their cozy kitchen to capture a few intimate moments.
As soon as we were done, we debated whether or not to head to Butterfly Beach (their favorite beach in all of Santa Barbara) and man, am I glad we did. The sunset was gorgeous and so worth it. It was an incredibly fun day, full of laughter. And who doesn’t have fun with their bestie?! Kels + Corey, I’m so excited for all the fun and exciting things coming up for the confused cottage and can’t wait to see the finished product! So proud of you both!!
