Happy New Year, friend!
Anyone else wondering where the heck 2018 went? I am.
Our New Year’s Eve was super glamorous… and by glamorous I mean homemade mac n’ cheese (because it’s a holiday, calories don’t count) while binge-watching our new Netflix obsession, Designated Survivor – which, if you haven’t seen this show, you need to seriously get on that. At 11:35 pm, we switched over to cable to watch the ball drop. And at 12:00 on the dot, we shared a kiss while we cuddled our dog.
There’s something about the beginning of a new year that just feels… I don’t know… promising. It’s a new beginning, a rebirth, almost like a do-over. The slate is wiped clean and we can start afresh. This used to be where I’d start making all these unreachable resolutions. Things I’d want to accomplish in the new year, only to have them fall by the wayside by, like, day 7. Be honest, you’re shaking your head in agreement. It happens to all of us.
So a few years ago, I decided instead to give myself a word that I could focus on for the year. A couple words that I’ve chosen in the past: growth, present, savor.
This year, I struggled with choosing a word. So many awesome words came to mind and it felt hard to nail it down to one. But then I got to thinking. Why do I have to choose just one? I couldn’t think of a reason not to, so this year, I’m going to do my best to live out these four words:
With that in mind, here are a few things I’m going to try to accomplish this year:
Capture an elopement or intimate vow renewal
In general, I want to work with more couples. And I’d even love to throw some destination sessions in there – that’s right, friends. I’m available for travel and I want to photograph love in some epic places. So if you’re thinking that sounds awesome, message me for details!
Build my email list
I always say to myself that I’m going to send out a monthly newsletter. And then I panic, because I don’t know what to write and then, well… it falls by the wayside. So this year I’m making it my mission to actually send an email out monthly with important and useful information. If you’re not on the list, what are you waiting for? You can subscribe here.
I don’t say this in vain. I think that striving for a lofty goal of being published keeps me determined to learn and grow as an artist.
Develop an educational course
Developing an educational course has been on my list for awhile. And to be completely honest, I don’t know exactly what this looks like yet. It could be in the form of a group shoot exercise, or maybe an online course. If you could learn one thing from me, what would it be?
Capture 2 births
I photographed my very first birth in 2018 and it was nothing short of amazing. It sparked a fire in me that, at the time, I wasn’t able to do anything with. But this year, I’m determined to photograph at least 2 births. If you’re expecting and are interested in a birth photographer, send me an email. The first two mama’s to book receive something special.
Become a ClickPro
Over the next few months, I’ll be compiling a portfolio of 150 images to be judged and critiqued to hopefully become a ClickPro. This has been on my bucket list for a really long time. I said I was going to do it last year, but I wasn’t confident enough and this year, I’m making it happen.
Share more personnel work
This year I want to share more of our daily life on my social media and blog. I hope you’ll stick around and not be annoyed with me. I’m just planning to share more in general. If you don’t want to miss out, head to Facebook and click “Like”, follow me over on Instagram, and click subscribe to the newsletter!
A few other things I want to do this year: open an online print shop and enter in the world of stock photography. Growth, friends, always growth.
If you made it this far, kudos. And thanks for being interested! I can’t wait to see what 2019 holds!
